The Cedar Waxwing is a lovely bird; and it just so happened that the berries they loved grew right outside my apartment window. Their annual visit to my complex was always exciting.

Background

Editor, Writer, Proofreader, Layout Specialist
I wear lots of hats related to writing. It is what I'm most passionate about in the jobs I've had. I've written offer letters to potential employees. And letters of introduction to potential clients. I've written contracts for groups securing reservations, and letters of acceptance to entering college freshmen.

In any profession, there are parts that you enjoy more than the rest. This was the case for me and writing and editing through the years and various titles I've had. And, because I have very much enjoyed business writing, I've chosen to bring writing to the forefront for my work endeavors, as a freelancer.

Biography

Shari Smothers is an independent contract writer, designer, developer. She dabbles in website design and computer technology. Shari writes and edits the content for her blogs and website. She tweets through a personal account and a work account, as well as writing posts to Facebook, where her blogs are networked. Shari is about to begin a training course to prepare her to test for A+ Certification.

Shari writes poetry extensively and participates in several online poetry communities when time permits. She just finished her April commitment for National Poetry Month, by writing and posting a poem daily. You can see the index of them on the page for NPM 2010 participation at Telling Stories. There were many great writers participating who use Blogger blogs, many who just set them up for the month. Many others were long-term.

A problem arose when she wanted to share a comment on some of the really great blogs and couldn't because her option was blocked, as she's a Wordpress blogger. Since community is important in these group activities, Shari felt very strongly about finding a way to communicate. And that didn't mean bugging all the writers to add an option to make it easier for her. Instead, always the one to try to work out a solution, Shari re-established her Blogger identity so that she could interact more freely with those who didn't use the generic "Name/URL" option.

You can read from Shari on her blogs:

As Shari is relatively new to freelancing, she's working to build her portfolio by working on sample pieces between her other uncredited assignments. Her articles list is growing. There will be more sample titles being added in the coming weeks beginning this month, May. So check back soon.

Her current projects include:

  • Ebook editing and publishing
  • Web design
  • Blog setup (I don't design them for now, only put them up and customize them as I can)
